Open Question: BMW Mechanic Keeps telling me the car is ready, then it breaks down again.?

7 September 2010, 7:26 am

I have a 1999 BMW AUTO 540i, And i brought it to a Mercedes/Bmw/Volvo place a month ago to get the transmission looked at. It had downshifted pretty rough like 5 times in the last 6 months. So I take it there, they tell me to leave it and they would call me. After a day passes, they call me and say i need a transmission service, and it will fix the problem, say they will bled the bad fluid out, put new trans fluid in, a new filter, and hammer any kinks out. 350$. When i go in the next day, I ask if they put the new filter in , they said no, mine was fine. So they took the 50$ off for the filter. 3 days later Im in heavy traffic downtown Atlanta. It starts struggling to move from stop to go, shifting hard as hell into first. So i take it back again, they said it needs a new filter. I said ok. 2 hours later they hand me a bill for 200$. I said the filter was only 50 before! They said they had to put new fluid in it again, and it was 150 for the fluid. I freaked out, and they adjusted the bill to 75$. So i leave, a week passes. I get in my car and driving it, its idling too high at low speeds, realize the transmission is stuck in 3rd gear. Take it back, Now they tell me it's in Limp mode. And they will call me when it's fixed. WTF is going on here? I'm really starting to feel taken advantage of, I cant afford to keep paying them for the same job. Should I have to pay them again for fixing it again? How can i run into more transmission problems less than 2 weeks after the original job? It's now more messed up than it was before i brought it in there. Pls advise me on what to say to these people when they call me today. Thanks.... Read More »
